It’s true, sugar is in almost every processed food item at the grocery store, even if it isn’t necessarily candy, soda, cake, cookies, or cupcakes. Sugar is more than likely in certain sauces, soups, and more. Unfortunately, consuming too much sugar could eventually lead to tooth decay since the bacteria in the mouth uses sugar to create acids that attack and damage the tooth’s enamel. Eliminating the amount of sugar consumed on a daily basis could prevent oral health issues from developing in the future. Whenever individuals crave something sweet, they can order it at a restaurant or purchase it when they plan on eating then and there. Not having sweets stashed in the house disciplines the mind and body, which leads to healthier teeth and gums.

Most people may be shocked to know that most food cravings only last about twenty minutes, which means when someone does start to crave sugary foods, they should quickly distract themselves until the craving is gone. Some great distractions include long walks, some form of exercise, talks with a friend, and more.

Another great tip is chewing sugarless gum whenever a craving occurs because it decreases hunger and cravings for sweet and salty foods.

Sleeping and exercising regularly also helps to lower levels of the hormone ghrelin in the body, which is responsible for stimulating appetite. The less sleep one gets, the more food cravings they’re bound to have and the more likely they are to overeat.
